Take notes 2

So one of my clients contacted me after my last blog piece and thought she was going to read something about taking notes during a reading.   I said that it's actually quite hard to take notes,  because there is so much information and you are asking questions,  and getting answers.  I've seen people try,  but I feel it's much better to record.

I encourage people to record their readings.  I tell people,  if you don't want it,  you can just delete it, but if you do want it and don't have it, then I can't always recall the exact words I used.  So often people return in 6 months or so and I can hear my phrases in their words and they tell me that they've listened to the recording multiple times.  One young graduate told me she was so upset with the reading, that it was only on relistening she could hear what I was actually saying and she found it very helpful and then returned fairly often over the years.

I now do all my readings online,  so you can easily record it.   When talking about emotional topics,  it's nice to be able to mull it over in your own time,  to help sort out how it really feels for you.

Listening to your old readings

I always encourage people to record their readings.  If later they find that they don't want it,  they can delete it.  But if they do want it,  and they haven't done it, it's a disappointment...

A regular client of mine said she realized it had been six months since her last reading and she felt like another one.  So she listened to her previous reading. She very sweetly told me she was amazed by how accurate it was in retrospect, the cards had picked every shift and had clearly seen what was going on at work long before she had.

We did our first skype reading and that worked very well.  If you are looking to explore your current situation,  try the skype readings,  they work far better than people expect.  You need to have your own tarot deck, and then I get you to lay out the cards and we talk...

Looking forward to reading for you,

Liat

Slowing down to the speed of life

It's a New York way of humble bragging,  to say how busy you are,  or to say how many things you have to do.  In a city of so many options,  it really is easy to fill every available moment with work or activity.  Sometimes it can be hard to find time to just sit and be.

One thing I love about tarot readings is that it is a dedicated hour - no other phone calls or texts intrude.  In fact,  I encourage people to record the readings and ask if they get lots of texts and if they do I tell them to put the phone on air plane mode,  as texts and calls,  even unanswered ones,  can disrupt the recording.

So it's an hour without distractions,  where we just focus on you and your questions.   A lot of people tell me afterwards how nice it is to just give yourself the time to sit and think about things like if you are on the right path,  and if your actions are getting you the results you want.

Recording the readings

I always permit people to record the reading. I’m so old, that I used to record readings on those awful cassettes, that looped out or tore, or we forgot to turn over, or the player didn’t work… I’m so grateful for smart phones!  I also tell people that my fantasy is that no one ever listens to the recordings, but it can help people settle and focus during the reading.  However the other day I did a reading and got this very sweet note afterwards –
As I was leaving the cafe, I decided to listen to the recording and I realized that my questions were in fact answered but I just didn't get the answers that I wanted to hear.  Replaying the recording brings an unexpected sense of comfort… I really do appreciate you for being completely honest with me and not giving me false hope.

And when I asked her if I could quote her she replied I think everyone who has the reading with you should bring a recorder.  Having it made my session so much more valuable- as I was able to replay some of the most profound points you made and ponder accordingly. I'll always have it to use as a guide and a confidence booster of sorts when I need the comfort and guidance.

I love that the readings can give comfort and clarity long after they have been given… so please, bring your phone or recording device…

Recording Readings

People often ask me if they can take notes or record a reading and I always say ‘of course!’

Then I was talking about it to a client the other day, I said that in therapy, the therapist can record the session but the client can’t; and I thought, isn’t that ridiculous?

If a client had asked me to record a session when I was a therapist I would have seen it as a challenge and tried to interpret it. But really, it’s just that sessions can give a lot of information, and that can feel overwhelming. Recording the session allows you to relax, you can experience it and know that the machine will help you with all the details afterwards. Of course, I don’t know how often people listen to these recordings afterwards, some I suspect never do! But one woman told me that her daughter had played her reading to her, and then the mother had chosen to come to me too, so clearly some recordings have a life of their own…

I guess what I’m saying here is, is that I prefer the liberation of working with Tarot in so many ways.
