Giving yourself some time and space

I had a reading where a woman in her 50's came in.  She had some hard cards.  She was trapped by the Emporer and had Justice Reversed in her hopes and dreams.   It turns out she had returned home to help her aging father who had alzheimers. (Best description of an Emperor/ Justice reversed  situation I've heard in some time!)

Looking after him had turned her wands cards upside down, all her energy was going into keeping him safe and stable, but it left none for her.

We had a long talk about caretaker burnout and compromises on her care,  to give her some space for self care.  But I was reassured by seeing the Magician as her outcome card.  She will mange to pull a rabbit out of her hat,  and it will be okay.

Sometimes the situations we find ourselves in are just hard,  and there are few shortcuts.  Going to tarot card readers,  talking with friends,  having some fun - helps us remember the lives we can have.  It's always important to make time and space for relaxation and happiness.

Finding the Connections

As someone who  plays the New York Times words games daily,  I was delighted with yesterday's Connections game.  I immediately got the purple level -  the connection between LoverMagicianFool and Tower leaping to my eye.

Tarot cards!

Funny how easy it  is to see connections when you have some knowledge of the area... (the sports ones always trip me up! )

Looking for a new job

People often come to me when they are considering changing jobs.  I like to know very little about each option - just think about Job A,  or Job B,  I tell them,  don't give me any details,  and then the cards can work their magic.

A woman came to me a while ago,  anxious about interviews,  well who isn't? - and asked me if she would get the job she was thinking of.  She drew 3 pentacles / chariot / magician - excellent cards.  It was going to be a really good job - with creative,  harmonious work,  her strong will power driving it through the interview and then the magician,  she pulls a rabbit out of the hat and gets the job!  We were both happy with those  cards.  And she emailed me afterwards - the interview went better than well and she got the job!

Magic of the Magician

After every reading, I write the cards you drew on a post card, so you can remember them and, if you wish,  you can look them up on this blog or elsewhere to explore them further.

I did a reading recently where the girl brought last readings postcard with her.   She asked about her relationship and drew the Magician:- her boyfriend is a magician, a bit slippery but with some magic,  some sleight of hand and some misdirection, voila, he call pull the rabbit out of the hat. It’s a great card for someone wanting to succeed in New York.

And then I glanced at her old card,  and saw that last September, she had drawn exactly the same card about him.

That’s why I love the cards,  he was the magician then, he’s still the magician now,  it’s way beyond chance that she should keep drawing the same card to describe him…  (and she agreed with the description,  ‘it’s very him’ )

The Magician

After the Fool (numbered zero) comes the Magician (the card numbered 1, in the Major Arcana.) The Magician is the male power of creation - creation by willpower and knowledge. But is it genuine creation or sleight of hand? Sometimes it’s hard to tell, and sometimes it doesn’t matter…

(I love this clever card set which shows the traditional rider waite images, imagined from behind:- you can see the Magician at work, and the monkey behind the scenes)

If people are asking me about a new business and the magician appears, I advise to approach with caution (but not necessarily run away!) There is ambiguity - is this a genuine business opportunity or a scam? There is magic and there are tricks, and I would use the rest of the reading to try and sort out which this situation is, and why does the querent feel as they do. The Magician is an omen symbolizing the importance of new enterprise and that you, the Querent, have the willpower and initiative to succeed.

If the Magician stands for a person then that person is charismatic, clever, witty, inventive and persuasive. People listen and agree with the Magician. If you are the magician, you can make things happen in your life, and you don't always feel the need to color within the lines...

In the Inner Child pack the ambiguity of the Magician is beautifully summed up as the genie from Aladin, and the moral, be careful what you wish for...
