Actions speak louder

I have lots of regular clients.  I've been seeing one woman every year or so,  she comes in July around her birthday.  This reading was her 10th.  So I've seen her through quite a few dates and some longer term boyfriends and now she is living with a man she met two years ago.

She said I was the first person who told her that "if he wanted to,  he would."  She and her friends would analyze each and every comment a guy made,  and then she met me and in our very first reading,  that's what I said to her, and that's why she's been coming back.

Cards read energy,  but energy without action is just air.  I really do judge on actions - words are easy,  but actions require thought and commitment.  And desire.  If he wanted to, he would.

Her current beau shows up, makes plans,  follows through.  He wants to, and he does.  The cards show he's a keeper,  and she's very happy, and I'm happy to be with her during this reading!

How does tarot work?

Had a talk with an old friend about Tarot recently. She asked how I did it and I started with logistics,  a tarot deck,  78 cards (more than a playing card deck),  I always start with the same layout (the Celtic Cross) and do the readings, responding to how the cards fall, in what order.

But how does it work?

The body is made up of water and energy,  with a bit of calcium and thickener for the organs and bones.  What we know about the body is growing in leaps and bounds,  but what we know about mind and spirit is much more circumscribed.

I don't know how the energy of the body attracts some cards and repels others.  Because I do so many readings,  I see the magic of it all the time. Does it work because we both want it to?  I've read for real sceptics and had very accurate readings.   I gave her the example of the reading I did recently with the man drawing justice reversed and it turns out he was in the middle of a court case that was not going well.  How did he draw that card and not another?  I don't know that.

But I do see it time and again.  People with money problems have their pentacles reversed,  people with pain in the hearts draw the three of swords. And equally importantly, people who are in good places relationship wise, don't draw the 3 of swords.  They draw the 2 of cups or the Lovers.

I believe in psychic phenomena,  so I see evidence of it all the time.  It's hard to have a clear explanation,  but I say,  sometimes you sit next to someone on the bus,  someone you have no interaction with,  and you can see if they are happy or sad,  excited or bored.  The cards take it a step further,  happy about love,  bored with work,  or excited about work,  sad about past love.

And that's what you go to a tarot reader to see - the pattern and how it is reflecting your life.

Emotions are Energy

One of my regulars came to me and said since her last breakup (he was unfaithful multiple times,  she caught him by seeing his phone) she's just full of rage and doesn't know what to do about it.  I said that Anger is Energy,  she needs to find a way to dispel it.

When I'm furious,  yoga doesn't work for me. All that controlled breathing and slow movement just makes me more agitated.  But a good long fast walk,  by the Hudson river, could work wonders. If you are feeling overwhelmed,  you need a way to displace that energy -  I find dancing gives me joy,  so a good zumba class,  can leave me smiling.

Find some movement you love,  that makes you feel empowered,  then go do that.  I often suggest kick boxing to (younger,  fitter) women.  And I get lots of feedback that it helped.  Get sweaty,  move about,  and then the anger burns itself out.  Then jump to the beat,  give yourself some joy,  and let the happiness come back in.

Keeping yourself well

In these difficult times,  it's easy to get agitated and upset.  I've found myself feeling claustrophobic. My own irritation/anxiety levels were rising and deep breathing and chocolate were not enough to bring them down.   I've put on 4 pounds in two weeks.  Always a bad sign!

So I've made a more concerted effort to connect with friends,  both of us drinking coffee and chatting over zoom or skype or facetime.  So many options!

My gym closed two weeks ago today and I hadn't done any exercise other than walk the dog since then.  I always say in my readings that feelings are energy,  and if you are angry or irritated or worried,  that's also energy.  If you can't defuse it at the source (you can't always shout at your boss/mother/lover/financial worries/ pandemic) you should still try to get rid of it.  I suggest high energy exercise - kick boxing,  running,  zumba.  I can't kick box or run to save my life (or my knees) but I can dance.

So today I went through the internet and found that to create a good zumba class is no simple matter.   There were lots of them that just didn't work for me - too hard,  too easy,  too complicated,  didn't like the music. It's easy to give up.   But after half an hour and a few missteps,  I found a great zumba teacher that I really liked - Ines Araonos.

So this morning is already better.  I'm sweaty and bouncy and can feel that irritated edgy feeling relax .   I think tomorrow I'll do a barre class.

Seeing the now

Tarot is a way of exploring the present to understand what is going to happen in the future.  It doesn't 'predict' the future,  so much as look at what you are doing now and what that will create.  It looks at your ingredients and says,  this is the cake you are baking...  If you want a different cake,  you need to put different ingredients in!

It does show you where your energy is strong - sometimes you want love,  but your love energy is weak and your work energy is strong - if you focus on work right now,  your rewards will be greater.

It's not a way to say on June 15th so and so will happen.  And it's not really great on time - so it says soon,  but as humans,  we want soon to be now and waiting 5 months can feel like not so soon.

One common question I get is when am I going to meet someone I love.  And if  you draw three cards and one of them is a strong relationship card,  I smile and say soon!  But sometimes you draw one card after another and a dozen cards later there is no relationship card.  Then I say,  you have to shift what you are doing in the present in order to bring that energy into your life.  If you keep doing what you are doing now,  it won't come in the foreseeable future. And then we discuss what else can be done.

It's not set in stone - I always tell people you can change all of this,  but that requires some conscious action of your part,  which can be hard.

Even if you draw wonderful cards,  work will be great, life is sunny,  and then you stop working hard,  because the outcome seems assured - that's when it stops.

So a tarot reading is a way to take your temperature,  give yourself time to look at your life,  your desires,  your goals and what you can do to give yourself the best possible outcome.

Transfering energy

So I was a bit grumpy when went to the gym today and met with a substitute teacher with the most beautiful smile,  named Sandra. She made us bop and dance through some excellent music (we both agreed afterwards that the music is everything,  even good steps/workout with bad music just doesn't work)  but really it was her energy infusing the room.

I felt like an energy vampire,  seeing her joyous vibrant energy and taking it into me. Afterwards I made that passing comment to another woman and she said that she felt exactly the same thing!  So we are good vampires,  taking energy from those who have it to share,  and letting it lift us up...

I can do the same at some readings - share my energy with them,  lifting them up.  In a good reading,  the energy exchange is mutual,  and we both walk out energized and optimistic.

Vaccinations - science and superstition

It may sound odd, a tarot card reader warning against superstition.  But I’m a very pragmatic sort of new age believer, and indeed, many new age beliefs just don’t work for me at all.   I believe in spiritual cleansings, but not more than I believe in the power of hot water and soap. And I do believe that sometimes the tide of energy is just against us, but then we have to see the pattern and navigate through it. At all times, we must harness our intellect, to wend our way through the world.

People who have decided not to vaccinate, because they are scared of “toxins” have just created a fearful word and then try to magically avoid it.  What they appear not to acknowledge is so many that so many things have toxins in them,  they are impossible to avoid.  The entire idea of immunity is to build up our own reservoirs of reaction to infection, so that the next time the virus comes at us, we have some immunity to it.  Want to know more about the science – go to a reputable medical website or book
We all desire to protect our children,  but we need to use our heads as well as our hearts,  it can't be all chaos and feelings,  we need order and science as well...

Super Bowl

Someone once asked me if I could predict the outcome of the Super Bowl.  I said that if you were playing in the Super Bowl or if you owned the team, then maybe.  But if you were merely a fan, even if you were a fan who had bet lots of money and was very invested in the outcome, then no.

When I read the cards, I see your energy, your life events - not other peoples and certainly not sports events.  If Rupert Murdoch came to see me, maybe I could see something about his companies, through his questions, but if you are just asking me about his companies to get stock tips,  I don’t see anything…

Sometimes people ask me about their parents or children or spouses and often I can get a very accurate description of the situation – but again, that is reading your energy.  If you are asking about a sibling you’ve never met or a parent you haven’t seen in twenty years, then I don’t get much.

So I will be watching on Sunday with the rest of you,  and I have no idea who will win (but I do have a delicious, comparatively low fat wings recipe, that I can share with you – I don’t add any extra butter and people rave about it.

How do the cards know?

Recently a client came to see me, whom I had not seen for several years.  Three years is a long time,  the old cards would no longer be relevant,  but I looked them up anyway (I used to make notes,  I now make a postcard of every reading,  photograph it and give it to you,  so you have a copy of all the cards you drew and so do I.)

The old cards were all about work, she was at a career junction then.  This time, there were no work cards at all,  and she was ‘a little freaked’ in her own words,  to see the 3 of swords at her core,  and a scattering of swords throughout her reading.  How did the cards know?  she asked me.  Last time they were so sunny and optimistic about work (and accurate, she landed a great job) and now it’s all about heartache and pain, how did they know that?

I said that’s what the cards do: they reflect your energy, where you are at right now.  People sometimes say to me,  well the cards will say that about anyone, and I say no,  if your love life is great, you draw great love cards,  if your work is awful your cards show that too.  The cards really do shift according to what is going on in your life at this point in time.

For those worried about her future – she drew the Ace of Cups, the current relationship was no good,  but love is not far away for her!

New Year's plans...

by Kaaria Mucherera

January, New year, is often a time for introspection – what are my plans for this year, what do I hope to accomplish.

Truzzles,  by Frank Paris

A Tarot card reading helps clarify those plans and see where the energy is flowing for you, and where it is stickier.  I always tell everyone that nothing in the cards is set in stone, there is always free will and there is always random chance that things will happen. But what the cards do very well is see where your energy is strongest - where things are just falling into your lap - and where it needs shoring up.

By Shiloh Sophia
Sometimes we chose to focus on the strong energy, riding that wave. Sometimes during a reading the person sees that what they are doing is not getting them the results they want and they have to change, to shift that energy, if they are going to get the outcomes they want. Either way, the cards help plot out what you plan to do for this coming year.

King of Wands

Like the Ace, the King of Wands is the pinnacle of the wands – so the King is fiery, bold, creative, and energetic. You certainly notice him when he enters a room, he has that kind of charisma. And while he may sweep you off your feet, or ignite a new passion in you, like the knight, he is not always good at the detail, and you may be left wondering what happened.

This is a man who needs new adventures and highs to keep the momentum going. He is that wonderful boss, a powerful natural leader who inspires the troops, but not necessarily the best husband (unless you are the Queen of Wands, then you are more than a match for him!) If you are in a wands marriage, it’s fiery, tempestuous and passionate and that’s how both of you like it. However if one of you is wands and the other is not, that can cause problems…

One way to read the King is that you are playing with fire. Of course heat facilitates all kinds of transformations, and we need it. But make sure you are protecting yourself and not getting burnt.

All Tarot Kings are about outward energy and focus. The wands King is a particularly actions oriented guy. This card is about having the confidence to take the leap forward. Use this energy while it is around you as it is a strong, bright flame and it can serve you well.

Ten of Wands

I know this card well and it always makes me sigh… it’s when all that wonderful wands energy becomes a burden to us and instead of lifting us up, we’re the ones pushing it up hill. We feel like Sisyphus, endlessly pushing the boulder up the hill only to watch it roll down again.

I warn people when they get this card that they have to take some proactive action, because waiting for it to pass is bad for wands energy, the flame starts to flicker and die… Wands need fiery passion to keep thriving and this image shows that the seed has no light to grow...

I like this card because it hints that the burdens are being hoarded. Sometimes we collect emotional injuries, like they are coins we can later cash in, giving ourselves permission to be resentful or bitter. The ten of wands is a hard card, but this attitude makes it even harder to change the situation.

Eight of Wands

This is a trickier card, with the wands flying through the air. It shows that lots of things are up in the air, nothing quite coming to ground yet. Some people find this more positive than I do, talking about clear skies, and speed. I guess I can’t see what it’s building yet, and often find this card with squandered energy.

This card shows the wands closer to earth but we still don’t know if it’s positive or negative, the woman looks perplexed, all this energy rushing towards me, what am I meant to do with it? Certainly, the theme of speed and rushing is here, but are we crossing the finishing line first or fools rushing in? This is a card where the context really matters and how I read it depends on what other cards are around.

I find the Inner Child card a more positive image because wands are a fire energy card, and all those sticks in the air worry me. But here, the sticks are pointing into the fire, and a group looks like it’s banding together to make something happen.

This final image is the one I find most satisfying, giving me both the rushing through the air feeling and also the fiery energy of the wands. This looks to me like my arrows are hitting home, and my energy will get me what I want.
