What's the best option

When people come to me with an important choice,  I like to know nothing more than the label - Plan A or Plan B.  That way,  my own biases don't come into play.

So a woman in her late twenties comes to me with two work opportunities and and I say,  let's shuffle and think about Plan A.

She draws  4 wands / King of Swords / 8 of pentacles

And then we look at Plan B

7 pentacles reversed / hanged man / 7 of swords.

Knowing nothing about either options, it's clear that Plan A is the better option - it's more stable,  it has a smart organized male energy and it gives career vibes.

Plan B was more hanging in the wind and betrayal.

Turns out Plan A was moving to Canada and take a position there and Plan B involved staying the more familiar New Jersey.  She was scared of the big change of moving countries,  but she too could clearly see it was the better option.  Sometimes fears hold us back,  but with a little reassurance,  we can burst forward.

Small Triumphs

Some days are difficult,  some weeks are full of tasks that you don't want to do.  It can feel overwhelming.  The 8 of swords dominating.

I really do feel that when these times happen,  lists are such a friend!  I write lists just for the joy of crossing things out.  I write lists so I have things timed and dated as to when I did something,  so if  need be I can look back and see how and when things were done.  I write lists because the edges of the notepad contain the anxiety I have,  and make it manageable.  Yes,  there might be 20 awful things on the list,  but if I do one a day,  then in 3 weeks,  it's done!

For a minute there I felt like I was living in the world of "there's a hole in my bucket" (that reference was old in my childhood, I know!!  Also talk about weaponized incompetence, that song is dreadful!)  But slowly I got all my papers and everything I needed,  and now my tasks,  while annoying,  are doable.

So that's what I tell my clients when they are feeling overwhelmed.  Shrink each task into small manageable bites,  don't overcommit,  do a small bit every day,  and set yourself up to succeed - don't try to do C when you know you need A or B completed first.  Break it down so you know what you need and start with the simplest things and build upwards.

Today I closed a foreign credit card,  I had all the paperwork in order,  I stayed on hold for 45 minutes,  and then,  voila,  it was done!  Small triumph but sweet indeed!  Use that Queen of Swords energy, and get things done!

King of swords

The King has all the strengths and the weaknesses of the swords. He is intellectual, discriminating and fair. He has a keen edge, and a dry sense of humor. He can be detached; he likes to look at the facts, and doesn’t like to factor in emotions.

He likes to work with information/data and analyze problems. He provides clarity in complicated situations. He takes time to formulate an opinion and then sticks to it. He doesn’t like to be challenged, though his innate fairness will make him listen. He values ideas, and wants others to value them too.

The Inner Child version emphasizes his passion for justice, idealism and correcting the world’s ills. The King of Swords can be highly ethical and tries to live to very high standards.

His shadow side is when he becomes cruel with his cutting wit, and cold or critical with his detachment. If he is not careful, he can value his ideals above the people in his life, which can make him unforgiving.
