Sixth Anniversary!

I've been reading Tarot for more years than I have fingers and toes,  but I only thought about creating this blog in 2009.  I've been writing it for 6 years now!  I started by going through the cards one by one,  describing them individually.  When you first start with Tarot,  you learn the 78 images and how to interpret them. But the cards really come alive when you read how they interact together, like musical notes that become so much more interesting when you play another note along side it.

This February the anniversary of my blog snuck by me in a fog of snow (it was such a cold February,  wasn't it!)  And I just looked and realized I hadn't written my customary anniversary blog. So here it is,  a few weeks later but better late then never at all.   That's one thing life has taught me - not to let the perfect get in the way of the good (and I was such a perfectionist,  I had to learn that lesson several times!)

I started this blog to show people that I am knowledgeable about Tarot and I keep writing it because my clients tell me that they often turn to it between readings,  to catch up with me and to read what is catching my interest.  I get lots of lovely feedback,  so I'm happy to continue with it. This blog is written with a lot of love and care.  It should answer most of your tarot questions.  If you want to know anything just type in the word in the upper left hand corner (near the B) and there is sure to be a blog piece about it (eg Wands will bring up the entire Wands suite.  If you want to know about a specific card,  type in that card and you'll get information about it.) Saying what I see…

I had a reading the other day where a girl asked me about work – it was clear that her current job no longer excited her and it was time to move on.  She had a job in mind and I always say tell me as little as possible, so that the cards can speak more clearly, just think of it as Job A. 

The cards were not good – tower / 7 cups /10 pentacle reversed.  I shook my head and her face just fell – she had been on several interviews with them already and the vibe had felt so right!  I hate giving bad news to people, but I always say what I see in the cards. 

We had a long talk about other job options and how she should position herself.  Then the next day I got an email from her – she spoke to them and they are suspending Job A for the time being, hiring no one… but she told me that because of our reading she felt able to handle the conversation and she knew that she would get a better job soon – the cards were clear on that count too – she ended with the Queen of Pentacles. 

A good tarot reading won’t always tell you what you want to hear,  but it should help you handle what happens better…

How do my readings work?

At the beginning, I prefer to know as little as possible about you. 

I always start with a cold reading and see what the cards tell me.  This doesn’t take long, and in that time I do all the talking.  The cards read the energy of what is going on in your life, showing where your energy is strong, and where it is stickier.  Even when I am reading for people a second time,  I always start by saying,  don’t tell me what’s been going on,  let me see what the cards say…

After the cold reading I check in with you, does that sound true for you, is this what is going on?  Now, the more you talk, the richer the reading becomes! Together we look at the cards and see if we can get more information. After that I can try to answer any questions that you may have.  I personally work best when they are structured in a yes/no format.  (ie not where should I live? - that’s too broad.  Should I stay in New York? that’s a better question for the cards.)

Asking the right questions

It’s interesting how you develop your own technique and then go on line and see that you are doing the exact opposite of what everyone else is doing! I always tell people when they ask questions to try and be as specific as possible, if they are too vague I always get annoying cards of ‘look to your intuition’, which doesn’t feel helpful at all!

I can’t answer a question like ‘what career should I follow’ but I can answer a question like ‘is teaching a good idea for me?’ So I’ve been encouraging people to ask ‘yes/no’ questions - specific questions, like will my relationship work out? Should I do an MBA? Is this the right job for me? Should I look for a new job right soon? Will I find love soon?


Then I read on line how some people think the tarot doesn’t like yes/no questions… I guess tarot cards respond to what the reader feels comfortable with. I like clarity, so when people ask me clear questions, I can help them find the answers.
