Adulting

Things just go in waves around me. I read something online and the next day someone talks about exactly the same thing in a reading.

So this weeks theme is Adulting.  Who's good at it,  who isn't,  what does it even mean?

Online a person was upset that all their friends appeared to be moving forward career wise,  while they weren't.  During the reading my client didn't get into the MA course she really wanted,  while her friend got into hers.

And I said that the old saying - Comparison is the thief of joy - is just so true!  Of course we don't know what else is going on in the other person's life,  but I like to mention Bob Fosse, who after winning both an Oscar (for Cabaret) and a Tony (for Pippin) in the same year (!) had a small nervous breakdown afterwards,  because who could ever follow that up again?

So try not to let your own or other people's successes overwhelm you.  Try to  find joy in the small moments and let yourself breathe.  It's tough out there and contentment is a real gift you can give yourself.

Things that give you joy

Often people come to me during troubled times in their lives.  It's easy to get focused on what we long for,  what we don't have.  And we do discuss during our readings,  what is it we are doing (or not) to help us get what we want.  And what are we doing that may get in our own way.

But this is about joy.  Sometimes in our longings,  we forget about focusing on things that give us joy. They don't have to be huge or complicated.  Buying fresh flowers for ourselves,  developing a new hobby,  looking at beautiful images.

The reason this came to mind is because I follow the National Geographic photos on face book.  And often those images are so amazing,  it just makes you heart sing,  makes you smile.  Someone else has spent hours of their life capturing that one perfect image,  and I think of them with gratitude and then send that photo on to friends and family.

So it's not about money,  or even time,  but about knowing what gives you pleasure and setting up life to give you some surprising joyous notes.

So much of our day to day life is habit.  Getting into the habit of giving yourself 5 minutes of joy a day,  you will be amazed how much impact that will have on the rest of your day!

Three of Cups

This is such a lovely, joyous card showing three women, sisters, graces, dancing together. It’s about friendship and sisterhood, celebration and abundance. After the intensity of the two of cups, we branch out to friendship and family and find joy and community. It has the theme or union or reunion, meeting up with those we love and celebrating.

The inner child captures the playfulness of the card; it’s a card about movement and being happy in your body as well as in your spirit. The mermaids are also working harmoniously together – if you get this card in a work setting, it means that the project will go well.

I particularly like this version, because it gives the card some male energy too; men talking and toasting some triumph, strengthening the bonds of their friendship.

4 of Wands

I always love this card, it’s one of the most joyful cards in the tarot. It’s about successfully using your energy to build something real and good in your life. There is something to celebrate; things are stable and solid, and home is a source of contentment and joy. (and who doesn’t want that!)

A phrase that comes to mind is ‘home is where the heart is’ and here the heart rejoices…

I like how in the Inner Child cards the fairies are planting and growing things. Life is being nurtured here. This is a card about harmony and balance, consolidation and foundations.
