My current favorite deck

So I'll end the year exploring a new tarot deck,  which feels like a really good way to end things for me,  going to the familiar (tarot) but seeing it with new eyes (a new deck.)  As I've said before,  it's such a joy to read tarot today,  when there are so many fascinating new cards on line,  with people giving new interpretations and new images to engage and enlighten us. 

I put a copy of this World card in my last blog piece, and then realized I didn't know that deck,  so went exploring.  The card comes for the So Below Tarot deck,  a deck that explores the tarot with more mundane,  common experiences.  

I really loved their Death Card,  which shows something that can be positive or negative - selling a house, but either way is a huge change. Everything is different,  we have to find a new place for every single thing in our lives. Even a positive move can have overtones of loss.  But it also didn't have the chilling imagery of death,  which can often scare people so much that they can't read it properly. So I really liked that.

Should she stay or should she go?

A while ago I had a reading with a woman who was in an okay enough job,  but close to friends and family.  She went looking for more engaging work and found it!  She got the job offer of her dreams - but it would involve a huge move. What to do?

One thing I often say to people is that if you flip a coin to decide, it's not the coin that makes the decision,  but rather seeing how you feel as the coin lands. Are you relieved or disappointed?  While the coin was in the air,  did a secret desire/hope show itself?

My client was lucky,  in that the cards were crystal clear - sometimes they are not! She drew the Fool/ Empress/ World.  Can't get better than that.  They loved the new job,  saw only good things ahead.  I said it was a risk but her energy clearly was on the move. She just didn't want to disappoint those she was leaving.   

She agreed. She really wanted the job,  but also the safe way to move on.  She was in her early 30's,  hadn't found her special someone,  was getting bogged down in her day to day life. The move, away from New York City,  felt like a necessary challenge. Even her love cards got better.   We laughed at that,  and she took the job.

Job A or Job B?

A client who I’ve seen before came to ask me about 2 job opportunities.  I said don’t tell me anything about either job, just really think clearly about Job A and then Job B. And the cards did what we all like best – they gave astoundingly clear results.  For Job A he ended with the 10 of swords and for Job B he ended with the world.  Just by looking at the cards,  anyone can see which job to take!

And then he told me the jobs – Job A was working at a startup for virtually no money, very high risk, no safety net and Job B was a solid corporate job in a creative field, with full benefits and 401K.  

I laughed and said thank goodness I didn’t know so it didn’t sound like I was deliberately steering him to the more conservative/safer option.  We laughed but he acknowledged that he didn’t have a safety net, there was no family money to fall back on, and the risks of Job A failing and then he being left with nothing were too real.  He was so glad that the cards supported him taking the option he really wanted but had been fearful that it was too limiting.  He left the reading determined to take Job B.

I like to know as little as possible at the beginning, but once the cards are drawn, the more I know the better I can interpret them.
